Government has given sanction to SDC to conduct two diploma programmes namely Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety Engineering and Diploma in Fire Safety Engineering. Theory classes and laboratory works are part of the programme. The Board of Technical Education, Kerala will conduct the examinations at the end of each semester for the award of diploma. SDC is the only institution in the State approved by Government of Kerala vides G.O (Rt.)No.123/90/LBR & REH/TVM. Dated: 15.01.1990 to conduct the diploma programme in Industrial Safety Engineering for the purpose of appointment as Safety Officer in Factories in the State as required under clause (ii) of Sub-rule (i) of rule 81-f of the Kerala factories Rules 1957.

Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety Engineering

1. Duration of the programme : 1 year (2 Semesters)
2. Eligibility for the Admission (May change)
Eligibility for admission will be as follows:
1. Degree or Diploma in any branch of Technology/Engineering or B.Sc. Degree with Chemistry as main subject acquired from institutions/universities approved by the Government of Kerala with:

Post basic qualification, practical experience in a supervisory capacity of two years in case of engineering degree holders and five years in the case of diploma holders in Technology/Engineering and B.Sc. Degree with Chemistry in manufacturing, maintenance or safety department in an industry; or in research, or training or education in the field of Industrial Safety, or in a Government Department in administration of safety legislation; or in building or other construction works or department of port or docks; or construction industry.
3. In the absence of experienced candidates as stated above, candidates with less experience or even fresh Engineering degree/diploma candidates will be considered. But BSc candidates without experience as stated above will not be considered for the admission.
4. Age : Above 18 years as on the date of notice inviting application but there is no upper age limit.
3. Number of seats
The maximum intake for the programme is 50 Students. Out of 50, 20 are reserved for Engineering graduates, 20 for Diploma holders and 10 for B.Sc. candidates. The vacant seats in any category will be filled up from the eligible candidates from other categories. The programme will not be conducted if the admission is less than 30 students.
